Lodging for Nomads: Medellin, Colombia

Medellín has become one of the most popular cities in Latin America for digital nomads, and finding a place to stay is relatively easy thanks to the large supply of modern apartments.

The city has seen massive development over the past decade, especially in neighborhoods like El Poblado and Laureles, where high-rise condos, serviced apartments, and Airbnb rentals are widely available.

Compared to many North American or European cities, Medellín offers excellent value for money. Modern apartments with amenities like rooftop pools, gyms, and coworking spaces are common, and prices remain relatively reasonable for what you get.

That said, location matters a lot in Medellín. Some neighborhoods are far more practical and comfortable for nomads than others.

Best Areas for Nomads

El Poblado is the most popular neighborhood for foreigners and digital nomads.

This area has the largest concentration of short-term rentals, modern condo buildings, coworking spaces, and nightlife. It is also where you will find Parque Lleras, the city’s main nightlife district.

Most Airbnb listings are located here, making it the easiest place to find a furnished apartment.

The downside is that it is also the most expensive part of the city.

Laureles is often considered the best neighborhood for actually living in Medellín.

It is flatter, more walkable than El Poblado, and filled with cafés, restaurants, gyms, and tree-lined streets. The area has fewer high-rise towers but offers a more relaxed residential atmosphere.

Many nomads who stay longer than a few months end up preferring Laureles.

Envigado sits just south of El Poblado and feels more like a traditional Colombian town.

It is quieter, slightly cheaper, and offers a more local atmosphere. The metro connects the area easily to the rest of the city.

For people staying longer term, it can be an excellent alternative to the more tourist-heavy parts of Medellín.

Below are three examples of apartments similar to what nomads typically find on Airbnb in Medellín.

Loreto - Studio - $1250/Month

This studio was a bit of a mission to get too, steeped on a hill on the edges of Loreto, it had an absolutely breathtaking view of Medellin, along with a massive terrace nearly as large as the studio. Internet can be a bit spotty in places, and this was one of them – always ask for a speedtest from hosts.

El Poblado - 1 Bedroom - $1100/Month

A fantastic corner unit at the edge of El Poblado, this unit was fantastic value. Central location, plenty of restaurants and bars around. 24/7 Security in the lobby, great amenities like a gym and pool.

Laureles - 2 Bedrooms - $1250/Month

For those requiring more space, this 2 bedroom with a view is a great option at an affordable price. Laureles is a solid pick to live in, with many students, bar streets and cultural activity. It’s also well served in terms of services, with all sorts of shops within walking distance. Fiber internet was fantastic for remote work.

Booking Tips

When booking apartments in Medellín, a few tips can make a big difference:

Stay near the metro or central areas
The metro is clean, efficient, and connects large parts of the city.

Avoid overly isolated locations
Hillside apartments may look attractive but can be difficult to access without a car.

Check internet speed
Most modern buildings have fast fiber internet, but it is always worth confirming.

Look for monthly discounts
Many Airbnb listings offer significant discounts for stays of 28 days or longer.

Final Thoughts

Medellín offers one of the best combinations of price, comfort, and quality housing anywhere in Latin America.

Modern apartments are abundant, the city has excellent infrastructure, and the climate makes it easy to live comfortably year-round.

Neighborhood choice matters, but whether you choose the nightlife energy of El Poblado, the relaxed streets of Laureles, or the quieter environment of Envigado, finding a good apartment in Medellín is rarely difficult.

For digital nomads looking for affordable long-term housing in a vibrant city, Medellín remains one of the strongest options in the region.
