Cheapest way to provide proof of onward travel

Headed somewhere that requires proof of onward travel? Here’s the solution

Get a ticket out.

Easy!

More seriously though, if you travel enough, it’s likely at some point you’ve been asked for proof of onward travel by an airline or immigration agents.

If you have no idea what proof of onward travel is – it’s pretty simple. Some countries, to avoid people overstaying their visas, or attempt to enter to live indefinitely and work, will require you to prove you have a ticket out of the country within the allowed Visa duration.

This can be a bus, train or plane ticket that exits the country.

Now, booking your exit and your next location months ahead of time goes against my nomad philosophy. Booking tickets is expensive and can be a hassle to cancel and get refunds for.

Thanks to the wonders of capitalism in the digital age, there’s now an easy solution.

Companies will buy tickets from real airlines, long ahead of time, and will “rent” that ticket to travelers who need proof of onward travel for a small amount, usually for a duration of 24 to 48 hours. These tickets are real, can be verified to be booked under your name, and thus totally legit.

There are many sites like this, so shop around if you will, but I’ve personally used bestonwardticket.com (I get no referral or kickbacks to recommend this company)

The tickets can be extended if needed, range from $12 to $18 and they usually deliver the tickets within minutes of purchasing. They support Paypal as well which is great. You can pick a destination on there if you wish to (I always did to avoid weird destinations that might get me questions from staff)

Once you’ve ordered your ticket, save it to your phone so you can always pull it out, even without any network connection or wifi.
